Medical Loan Closet

A limited amount of medical equipment such as walkers, canes, crutches, port-a- potties and wheelchairs are available to seniors and disabled persons for loan of a minimal fee of $1 a month. Wheelchairs must pay a fee of $25 that is not refundable. Donations of medical equipment are also accepted.

Podiatry Services

Limited appointments are offered for senior citizen residents of Bloom Township to receive podiatry services. Foot and nail care are discussed during consultations and are available during the morning and afternoon hours every month for your convenience. A local podiatrist volunteers his time for this valuable service to seniors.

Foot problems commonly develop in people with diabetes and can quickly become serious so diabetics are encouraged to come in and see the doctor. Contact the senior department for appointment availability.

Gentle Chair Yoga Sessions

Are you curious and want to experience yoga? Make the chair your floor! This program is a gentle form of yoga performed either sitting in or standing by a chair. This form of yoga is recommended for beginners, those with disabilities and injuries, those with limited mobility or weight constraints, or those who want to learn how to refresh their bodies while sitting at a desk. 

This course is instructed by Judi Somer, CYT, CPI.  Judi has over 12 years of teaching experience. She believes in making yoga accessible to everyone of all physical levels based on the knowledge of the benefits of yoga in maintaining health, improve quality of life, and controlling the effects of a range of chronic conditions

Class Information

Bloom Township offers a 10 class session which spans over a 3 month period.  Classes are structured to include breathing exercises, proper posture, a variety of modified gentle yoga poses, and meditation/relaxation exercises. The yoga poses are performed slowly and safely, either sitting or standing by a chair with the use of props (yoga strap, block, light hand weights, and the wall) to assist in making the yoga poses manageable to each individual.

Schedule & Fees

Chair Yoga classes are available on Wednesdays, with either a 9:00 am or a 10:30 am time slot to chose from.

One 10 class/3 month session is $20 for Bloom residents. Cost for Non-Residents is $40. Sessions run: January through March, April through June, July through September and October through December.  Waiver is required.

Pre-registration is required and payment is due two weeks before a new session. Classes fill up fast! Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. There are no refunds after a session begins.

Wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle. Please consult with your physician before beginning any exercise program. Waiver required. "Anyone who can draw a breath can practice yoga."

Free Stronger Seniors Chair Exercise Program

The Stronger Seniors workout program is designed to help seniors develop strength and enhance the ability to function in daily life. The program helps to improve your ability to be stable and balanced to stay mobile, to go up and down stairs, to squat and pick something up, and to play with your grandchildren.

Beginners to experts, ladies and gentlemen, join us for some exercise! Stretch and Strength video programs. This is a Free class that is offered every Tuesday and Thursday morning beginning at 10:00 am.  Please consult with your physician before beginning any exercise program. Waiver required. Class is subject to schedule changes when necessary.

Line Dancing Instruction

Line Dancing is a unique form of exercise because it provides the heart-healthy benefits of an aerobic exercise while also allowing you to engage in a social activity. Of all the physical activities, dancing involves the most mental effort!

Dawn the Dancin' Deeva is the class instructor.  She is a certified instructor with the International Consortium of Line Dance Instructors and has been actively teaching dance in our area and beyond with over a decade of experience.

Make friends at the weekly Line Dance class and make exercising fun! You will learn: The Boot Scootin' Boogie, The Electric Slide, The Freeze, Personality, Chinese Checkers, Blurred Lines and more! 

Classes are 1 hour on Wednesday afternoons from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Classes run January through March, April through June, July through September and October through December. Participants must register in advance of the first day of each session. The program fee is $20 for each session. No refunds after the first week of the class or for missed classes. Participants may join at any time during a session if the class is not filled, but the fee will not be prorated. A waiver is required before participating.
